History of Pilates

The Pilates system was created by Joseph Pilates, a gymnast born in Germany. He designed a system of exercises during the First World War to improve the rehabilitation for many returning veterans. Pilates created "The Pilates Principles" to condition the entire body: proper alignment, centering, concentration, control, precision, breathing, and flowing movement.

Over the years, the fundamental Pilates exercises have evolved, providing a wealth of exercises to help strengthen and mobilise the human body. Different pieces of equipment can be used in all the classes, ranging from: Resistance Bands, Weights and Rollers to assist or increase the complexity of an exercise.
